Located at 1550 L St in Fort Dodge, IA, FDCF carefully assigns inmates based on their custody level, considering factors like criminal history. FDCF offers diverse educational and vocational programs aimed at equipping offenders for successful reintegration into society and reducing recidivism. Through these initiatives, inmates gain skills and confidence, fostering personal growth and resilience.

The FDCF was built in 1998 to house 762 male offenders, later expanded to accommodate 1392. The facility prioritizes offender rehabilitation through cognitive-based programs addressing criminal thinking, substance abuse, and domestic violence.

Partnering with Iowa Central Community College, FDCF offers educational classes including HiSET, Literacy, ELS, Special Education, and Life Skills. Vocational training varies annually and has included welding, culinary arts, building trades, and supply chain management.

FDCF also offers apprenticeships in various fields such as cooking, electrical work, plumbing, and landscaping. Offenders can earn the National Career Readiness Certificate for employment readiness. Iowa Prison Industries provides vocational training onsite, particularly in textiles.

Reminder: Per the Department visitation policy, all visitors upon entrance to the institutions shall be subject to search. Security and contraband control are critical operational requirements, necessitating a search of all visitors by trained correctional staff. Searches may include but are not limited to, a pat down, metal detectors, electronic ion scanners, other electronic devices, or visual searches. If visitors refuse to comply with the Department visitation policy, entrance to the visiting room will be denied.
