The Cummins Unit, operated by the Arkansas Department of Corrections (AR DOC) in Jefferson County, is a state prison accommodating multiple custody levels, including minimum, medium, and maximum security inmates, with a holding capacity of 1,876 individuals. Historically, Cummins housed Arkansas's male death row until 1986, after which it was transferred to the Tucker Maximum Security Unit and later to the Varner Unit. The female death row is currently located at the McPherson Unit. As one of the state's "parent units" for male prisoners, Cummins serves as one of several units of initial assignment for processed male prisoners.

Within this facility, there is a separate barracks designated for inmates requiring mental health management. Educational programs are offered to inmates, including opportunities to earn basic and GED-level educations.

Cummins Unit provides a variety of programs for inmate participation, notably including a robust agricultural program. Inmates have the opportunity to engage in agricultural activities such as livestock, field crops, vegetable crops, feed milling, slaughterhouse operations, poultry and swine management, cow-calf operations, hot house cultivation, dairy farming, creamery work, and pecan farming. Additionally, the facility hosts a canine unit, allowing inmates to work with dogs. Studies have shown that working with animals can aid in socialization and empathy development among inmates.

Operational programs at Cummins Unit extend beyond agriculture and animal care. They encompass industry-related activities such as vinyl bindery, silk screening, garment factory work, and monogramming. Additionally, the facility offers mental health programs, recreational programs, restrictive housing barracks, and the Think Legacy Program, along with faith-based principles and the Applications for Life (PAL) Program, aimed at supporting inmates' personal development and rehabilitation.
