The Grimes Unit, located in Newport, Jackson County, is a medium- to maximum-security state prison for men operated by the Arkansas Department of Corrections. Adjacent to the McPherson Unit (for women), it has a capacity of 1,012 inmates, with a significant portion being technical parole violators who returned to prison due to violating parole terms.

At Grimes Unit, inmates have access to a wide range of treatments, programs, and vocational studies. This includes substance abuse treatment, educational classes, and participation in an agricultural and gardening program. Additionally, vocational skills are offered through the industry program and ICC garage.

Operational activities at the Grimes Unit encompass various initiatives such as Agriculture focusing on garden and bee operations, the Faith-Based Principles and Applications for Life (PAL) Program, GED Program in collaboration with Arkansas State University, the Inmate Council, Mental Health Groups, Regional Maintenance, Story Book Project, Substance Abuse Treatment Programs, the Think Legacy Program, and Vo-Tech vocational training.

For directions to the Grimes Unit from Little Rock, travelers are advised to head approximately 100 miles north on Highway 67 North. Upon reaching Exit 83, Highway 384, they should turn right and travel approximately 2 ½ miles before turning left onto 384S (300 Corrections Drive), where the Grimes Unit is located on the left.
