The Brown Co Jail is a low/medium-security detention center located at 750 Mt. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Brown County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Georgetown Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Here are some of the specific services that are available for inmates at the Brown County Jail.

MONEY - Inmates are not permitted to possess money while incarcerated. For each inmate with money at the time of booking, or who receives money while incarcerated, an inmate account will be established. Inmates may use their account to order items from our commissary menu twice a week. Inmates are not permitted to obtain items by any other means.

How to send money to an inmate: All funds must be in the form of a money order or certified check made payable to the inmate and sent via the US Postal Service or dropped off at the Brown County Sheriff s Office in the DropBox in the front lobby. We do not accept cash or personal checks. Upon receipt of a money order or certified check, it will be credited to the inmate's account.

Upon release, the inmate will be notified of their account balance. The check with their remaining balance will be mailed to the address given at the time of booking, within 7-10 business days.

Inmates are not permitted to release any funds from their account.

CORRESPONDENCE - You may write to an inmate by addressing your letter to the inmate, c/o Brown County Sheriff s Office 750 Mt. Orab Pike, Georgetown, Ohio 45121. All mail is opened and inspected for contraband by Detention Center staff prior to delivery to the inmate. Any money orders or certified checks are removed and credited to the inmate's account. All correspondence must be sent via the US Postal Service. No blank paper or envelopes sent through the mail will be given to the inmate. Inmates will not receive any mail that has been sprayed with perfume if so it will be returned to sender. Only (5) photos can be mailed in at a time. Any photos deemed inappropriate will be placed in the inmate's property.

INDIGENT INMATES - Inmates are permitted to purchase paper, security ink pens and stamped envelopes through the commissary to send mail. Any inmate determined to be indigent is permitted to receive one indigent package a week. A charge is placed against the inmate's account and the amount collected should the inmate receive any funds in the future.

TELEPHONE CALLS - The Brown County Sheriff's Office maintains four phones in each housing unit. The inmates have access to the phones to make collect calls to the persons of their choice. Inmates may also purchase inmate calling cards through the commissary which allows the inmate to call directly without any charge to the person being called. No other types of calling cards are permitted. A computerized record is maintained of every phone call made and all phone calls are recorded. Inmate Locator

Brown County OH Jail publishes the names of the inmates currently in their facility in Ohio. Your search should start with this locator first to see if your loved one is there.
