In terms of its historical background, the building that now houses the California Rehabilitation Center was originally constructed as the Lake Norconian Club, a luxurious hotel, in 1928. In December 1941, amid wartime needs, President F.D. Roosevelt repurposed the resort into a Naval hospital. Following periods of operation and closure, the facility was eventually donated to the state in March 1962 to be used as a narcotics center. Over time, CRC transitioned to housing felons in addition to civil narcotic addicts, particularly to alleviate overcrowding concerns in the 1980s.
CRC maintains a database of current inmates and their locations within the system. To locate an inmate, begin by using the DOC locator tool, which requires entering the first three letters of the inmate's first and last name, allowing for variations in spelling.
If unable to locate the desired information through free resources, users may opt to use the Arrest Record Search, which requires payment. While this option incurs a small fee, it provides access to the most up-to-date data available.
