Located at 381 W Hospital Dr in Orofino, ID, ICIO carefully assigns inmates based on their custody level, considering factors like criminal history. ICIO offers diverse educational and vocational programs aimed at equipping offenders for successful reintegration into society and reducing recidivism. Through these initiatives, inmates gain skills and confidence, fostering personal growth and resilience.
Originally established as a state school and mental health facility, the ICIO underwent expansion in 1988 with the addition of a new wing. Designed to accommodate up to 580 male residents, ICIO primarily houses medium-custody individuals, along with protective-custody residents. Adjacent to the compound is Givens Hall, which functions as a work camp. ICIO provides various vocational work programs, educational opportunities, and other programming for its residents.
