Lee CI is for State Prison offenders sentenced anywhere from one year to life by the State Court in the county where the charges were filed
All prisons and jails have Security or Custody levels depending on the inmate’s classification, sentence, and criminal history. Please review the rules and regulations for State - maximum facility.

Located at 990 Wisacky Hwy in Bishopville, SC, Lee CI carefully assigns inmates based on their custody level, considering factors like criminal history. Lee CI offers diverse educational and vocational programs aimed at equipping offenders for successful reintegration into society and reducing recidivism. Through these initiatives, inmates gain skills and confidence, fostering personal growth and resilience.
Lee Correctional Institution, housing both close and medium custody level male inmates, offers a diverse range of educational opportunities, including literacy programs, GED preparation, high school courses, and college correspondence courses.
In terms of vocational training, Lee CI provides inmates with skills in electrical work, carpentry, welding, and brick masonry, enhancing their employability upon release. The institution's industries involve various recycling projects in partnership with a private sector company, as well as the manufacturing of apparel, mattresses, and pillows for institutional use.
Healthcare services at Lee CI encompass routine medical and dental care with round-the-clock coverage, including a licensed infirmary and access to mental health care within the area.
A multitude of programs are available to inmates, addressing reentry needs, the impact of crime, violence prevention, and character development. Other offerings include beekeeping initiatives, chaplaincy services, support groups for alcoholics and individuals coping with grief, anger management sessions, mental health services, volunteer opportunities, and hospice care.
Lee CI also serves as a venue for video conferencing parole hearings in collaboration with the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole, and Pardon Services, facilitating communication between inmates and parole officials. Through these initiatives, Lee Correctional Institution aims to promote rehabilitation, personal growth, and successful reintegration into society for its incarcerated population.
Lee CI maintains a database of current inmates and their locations within the system. To locate an inmate, begin by using the DOC locator tool, which requires entering the first three letters of the inmate's first and last name, allowing for variations in spelling.
If unable to locate the desired information through free resources, users may opt to use the Arrest Record Search, which requires payment. While this option incurs a small fee, it provides access to the most up-to-date data available.

Visitation is now open on Saturdays and Sundays for all institutions not on covid quarantine.

Visits will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will be scheduled in 2-hour blocks. General population inmates with visitation privileges will be allowed four in-person visits per month.
Inmates may have one visit per weekend and up to four visits per month.
Inmates may have up to four visitors at a time, one of which must be an adult. Children of all ages can visit. Children age 10 and older must have a government-issued photo ID to visit. Children age nine and younger must show a long-form birth certificate.
