The Sumner Co Jail is a low/medium-security detention center located at 117 W Smith St Gallatin, TN which is operated locally by the Sumner County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Sumner County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Gallatin Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals. You can see all the arrest records for Tennessee here.

Offenders are committed to the Sumner County Jail in accordance with the laws of the State of Tennessee. The jail staff have no legal authority to release anyone without proper orders from the court. The Jail operates on the principle that both the individual and the jail staff share the responsibility for creating a safe and orderly jail setting.

The jail is a no-smoking facility.

The Sheriff and his staff are the only persons responsible for the operation and control of the jail. They will strive to act fairly and humanely, according to law. The Sheriff has established rules to guide the jail. Only the jail staff have the authority and responsibility to impose and enforce these rules. The rules may seem strict at times, however, they are made to ensure the jail is run safely, securely and fairly.
