It's here to help you get a handle on how things work at Walworth County WI Jail so you can stay connected and support your loved one behind bars.

The Walworth Co Jail is a detention center located at 1770 County Road NN Elkhorn, WI which is operated locally by the Walworth County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Walworth County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Elkhorn Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals. You can see all the arrest records for Wisconsin here.

The current Walworth County Jail was built on the north side of Highway NN in the Town of Geneva as a 398-bed facility. An addition to the building in 2003 brought the bed space up to the current total of 512 beds. The Sheriff's Office/Jail was annexed into the City of Elkhorn in 2002 when the Judicial Center was relocated to the County complex.

The facility holds both male and female inmates in direct supervision housing units. Subjects arrested for any criminal/traffic offense, from failure to pay a fine to murder in the first degree, are held in the county jail pending sentencing or bond/bail arrangements. Although you cannot currently be sentenced to the county jail in the State of Wisconsin for more than one year per charged offense, those facing serious charges are often held for longer periods of time due to the length of the trial process.

The civilian jail staff of dedicated public servants manage the day to day operations of the jail. Staff ensures that all inmates, staff, and visitors are kept safe and secure, while maintaining and observing all federal, state and local laws.
