Are the horror stories that you read about isolation true?

Have you ever been in an RHU? If yes, are the horror stories that you read about true? This is "**EXTREMELY**" IMPORTANT to me! I'm very weary of the fact that whoever is reading & answering questions, especially about this kind of topic, is actually employed by the DOC. & I'll be given a line of b.s. I'm not trying to offend you, I just have lost all trust in all employees of the DOC.

The RHU is the same thing as the SHU, it's all about solitary confinement. I have been in there three times in federal, you're not gonna get BS from me. I don't know about horror stories, but isolation is no picnic. What are your expectations, for someone to tell you it's great? Inmates get sent to the SHU for a variety of reasons. In most cases, it is a merited punishment for some rule violation. The more serious the infraction, the longer the inmate gets to sit in the SHU by themselves. Phone calls, visitation and commissary are all restricted to a the barest minimum - three showers per week, two hour of recreation per week.

The SHU sucks big time. Reading is the inmate's ONLY escape.
