Do inmates have to be there for a certain amount of time before they are allowed phone privilege, mail, or visits? I'm from Louisiana and my boyfriend is in Huntsville. I don't know how any of this works. So is there's any info anyone could give me it would be greatly appreciated.

When new inmates arrive in prison, they go through a process known as Admissions and Orientation or A & O. Each inmate will typically be interviewed by his Case Manager and Correctional Counselor within the first seven days after commitment to the institution. During your orientation, you will also participate in various lectures, examinations, tests, and interviews. This means that numerous staff members, at one time or another, will participate directly or indirectly in your program development and institution orientation. Interviews will be conducted by staff members, either individually or in a group, and they are encouraged to ask questions. Examinations conducted by Health Services staff will be used to assess your health status. Educational tests will determine your academic level and job training possibilities. Additionally, this information will serve as an aid in developing an individual education program to meet their needs. Participation and cooperation is necessary in order to assist you in developing short - and long - range goals. After A&O takes place, they are usually able to start making phone calls, getting visits and getting into what will be their normal routine.
