The problem is that there are no programs in place for people on the outside to effectuate assistance on the inside in this genre to date. The only way we've seen citizens actually make impacts on inmates while incarcerated is in the Alcohol Anonymous area and in some isolated drug abuse situations. The prisons will allow members of AA or NA come in and lead the meetings for interested inmates. They are given special visitation privileges and conduct meeting in the visitation area of the facility. Our advice would be to approach the chaplain of the facility you're interested in assisting and like any other business scenario, make your case in a very detailed format. The chaplain would have to be compelled to bring it to the next level, etc. They will not be the deciding factor, just a first step. If you are organized and diligent you might be able to make an impact on the decision-makers and become one of the initiators of these type programs that will be in the prison system from here on. Good Luck!
