What specifically does the inmate have to put on the letter to let you guys know to scan into my account? Just my name? And does he need money to send respond to a letter?
We get hundreds of incoming letters per day. They are all scanned and matched to the name of the addressee. There is no cost to the inmate, we charge $1.49 for the retrieval of the letters.
what kind of language is allowed in a letter? sexually explicit letters are they aloud.? his in a minimum prison.
The mail room staff does potentially read every letter coming through, even at the camps but they are looking for crime-related content that relates to their crime, escape or potential crimes they might know about or even direct through letters. Most federal inmates can buy "picture tickets" through the commissary ($1.00 - $1.50 each). Once or twice a month, the staff will take inmate's pictures for the very purpose of sharing them with their loved ones mailing them home.
I sent a letter to my inmate yesterday and this morning it said "sent" around 9:00am. At 5:00pm today i got a email saying he has been transferred. Did he receive my letter before he was transferred? Does "sent" mean the inmate recieved it?
No, he definitely did not get it. Send us the inmate's name and new location, we will remail it for you at no charge.

I'd like to know how the process goes for a letter emailed to an inmate. I am just reaching out and honestly very foreign to the process. Is there something I didn't include that I should have or even if he received it.

You can send as many sexy pictures as you want - they are definitely allowed in federal prison, but you cannot show any private parts (they will get rejected). Pictures of yourself in a bikini or lingerie, inmates love them. But, remember that the pictures are reviewed and approved by staff members in the mail room - so keep it classy. Your boyfriend will appreciate these pictures and they go a long way towards keeping him thinking about you :)
Inmates can only write to another inmate if both have approval from their respective institutions. This happens in cases where the two are related, it is unlikely to be approved if there is no family connection
The online letter is the most reliable. Inmates have to call you, you cannot call in and ask to speak to them. Therefore, the letter can initiate contact but then the inmate would have to call you.
The inmates may write you back through us. If they do, we scan their mail into your account and notify you by email that you have correspondence.
