Is there a place for released prisoners to "start over" a half way house, so they don't do anything illegal to support themselves until they can get on their feet again?
Yes, there are halfway houses that inmates are sent to before their actual release back into society. When your inmate gets closer to their out-date, they will meet with their counselor or case manager to discuss the upcoming steps for re-entry. This includes halfway house, finding a job and suitable living arrangements.
Every state has a Re-entry Program that is offered to inmates released into society. Depending on the state and the type of sentence the inmate served will determine how they will do halfway house, probation/parole and whether they have a successful reentry.
Speaking as a former inmate, I can say that "I've learned my lesson and I am very aware that the decisions facing me going forward will be made with a lot of contemplation about potential consequences." This was an expensive lesson for me, as time and money were wasted. I'm hoping that my recollection of being locked up is enough to make sure that all my decisions are good ones.
My nephew has officially been released into sexual probation for 3 years. However, we cannot find anywhere he can go. All family members have children, his mom lives out of the county & is pregnant & no one has the money for a motel or halfway house. Is there another way to go about this?

He can get health care through Medicare - recommend getting a health check-up and while there, explain his financial/housing situation to the doctor (only, no one else in the office) and ask what programs indigent people can get assistance from. The doctor can actually write an order for additional care in the form of indigent housing...Read more

Inmates can serve half of this period at the halfway house and half of this period on home incarceration. Inmates may be found ineligible for halfway house placement for reasons such as poor institution adjustment,...Read more
Your inmate's correct release date would normally be given to them by their counselor. If they have given him the full time release date it could mean that is the actual date. He is in the home stretch, we are not certain that contacting the counselor yourself is a great idea. Ask your inmate to get some clarification on the "real out-date". Once he knows the out-date, he can relay this to you and you may go to the main...Read more
