What exactly is an InmateAid phone line?

InmateAid is able to provide you with a new number that will allow your loved one’s to speak with you at a lower rate than if they called your number directly. Most often prison phone companies charge very high calling rates unless your phone number is located where they have the lowest calling rates. We get you a new number that provides the lowest calling rates from the prison phone company - you still have to sign up with them and pay them for the local call.

Often that is a new number that is local to the prison, but sometimes the long distance rate is less expensive than the local rate. Either way, we get you the best rate possible. When the  inmate calls the new number, we automatically connect that call to your permanent phone number.

InmateAid provide local or long distance telephone numbers only; this means your inmate will be placing a call through the prison phone company to a number with the best rate and you will avoid paying crazy telephone rates - savings that are only possible by having a new number that gets you the lowest rate possible.

What type of customer would benefit the most using the InmateAid Discount Phone Service?

People that speak to their inmate more than once per week are our most satisfied user. High volume callers are saving hundreds of dollars per month. You have to justify getting the number from us with the savings. Only you know how much you talk, and more importantly how much you WANT to talk.

How much money will the InmateAid phone service save?

The savings vary from each state and even from facility to facility - but the typical savings is about $4.50 per call. If you speak more than once per week, you would be saving more than the InmateAid fee.

Does the InmateAid phone service replace the prison/jail phone service?

NO. InmateAid only provides a local number that is forwarded to your current phone line. It can be a cell number or a land line. The rates being charged by the phone companies working with the prisons are unbelievably high. The only way to beat them is to have a local line so that the cost per call is at the lowest per-minute rate they offer.

Regardless of the outbound calling format (whether GlobalTel, Securus, CityTeleCoin, Paytel, IC Solutions, Telmate, Amtel, Reliance, and more), you have to fund the prison account for the inmate to call out. However, it is cheaper for an inmate to call a "local number" than a "long distance number". We are simply providing a LOCAL NUMBER, not replacing the prison telephone service provider.

Why do I still have to pay two companies?

Our service will make paying two companies less than paying one with a higher per call tariff. InmateAid's fee of $19.95 is covered within 4-5 phone calls in a month. Allow the math to be your guide. Using your number the call costs $6.00 each - there are 30 days in a month costing you $180.00 to talk every day. With an InmateAid number the call costs $1.65 each, for 30 days the cost is $49.50 - PLUS the $19.95 fee to use the line (total $69.45).
The money you save is $110.00/month.  Paying two companies is clearly a better option.

Can InmateAid save my inmate money if they are in a county or local jail?

Yes, InmateAid can help you if your loved one is in a county or local jail and can provide you with local numbers in most cases. Long distance call costs from inmates are very high. Using the local number we provide can help you save up to 80% on each jail call.
Many people assume if the area codes are the same as the jail facilities the call will be local but quite often the call will be considered long distance.

Can InmateAid save my inmate money if they are in a federal prison?

Yes, InmateAid can help you if your loved one is in a federal prison and can provide you with local numbers in most cases. Local calls from ALL federal prisons are 6 cents per minute. Long distance call cost 21 - $1.00 per minute. The inmates are allowed 300 minutes per month; the difference to the inmates calling account is $18 for local calls versus $63 - $300 for long distance. The $8.95 fee InmateAid charges for the local line is offset by the HUGE cost spread.

If I have an account with Global Tel Link, Securus, IC Solutions or others where I have to pay them first, then pay them again to use your number?

The number that you opened the account with first is a long distance number. When your inmate calls from the prison or jail, the time of the call is charged the long distance rate. When you get a LOCAL number from InmateAid, you will have to establish a new account with the service.  You are going to be paying a substantially lower rate with this line than the long distance line.

Since you are pre-paying the prison phone service for your inmate (i.e. Securus, IC Solutions, Global Tel*Link, PayTel, CityTeleCoin, Telmate), you may have to treat this new LOCAL number as a NEW ACCOUNT with them as they may not allow you to move money from the old number to the new number.

Why do the services like Global Tel Link or Securus tell us your service is a scam?

Simple, we are the only way around the system that they operate to maximize the most profit from people forced to use their service. There is no other alternative.  To beat their criminal pricing, you need a LOCAL line.  If your line is already local we will NOT be able to save you money. If it is LONG DISTANCE, this service will save you money. Our price to secure a LOCAL telephone line is the lowest in the industry. You can read what the government has to say about this service: FCC endorses "Low Cost Call Routing Service" with ruling against Securus for blocking lines that will save you money

What if my inmate gets moved, do I have to sign up and pay again?

InmateAid's longtime policy has been to replace phone numbers on active accounts at NO CHARGE, no matter the reason. If your inmate gets transferred, email us the new location and we will have a new number for you, usually within an hour of your request. If the line gets blocked, we replace the number, no questions and no cost.

What if we get the line and shortly thereafter my inmate gets released, are there any refunds for the unused minutes?

InmateAid does not own the lines. We pay for them when you order them and the phone company has a No Refund Policy. The phone line is the commodity, not the minutes used. The minutes do not rollover to the next month, either. The term you select is the term the line "rental" is good for. Please make sure you understand, once the line is issued to you, there are No Refunds.

Why are some local calls more expensive through Securus than long distance calls through them?

Securus has been charging local numbers $12-15 per call and the long distance calls are about $3.00 per call. It is clearly a move that is aimed at confusing people who look to "Low Cost Routing Services" to save money.  This is not is all cases but we are seeing it in about half the cases. When the discounts are reversed, we simply get long distance numbers for people who are local.
