Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional is for Regional Facility offenders have not been sentenced yet and are detained here until their case is heard.

The Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional is a low/medium-security detention center located at 160 Peregory Ln Charlottesville, VA which is operated locally by the Albemarle Regional Authority and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates have been here for less than five years. Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional accepts inmates from the Albemarle County Sheriff's arrests and surrounding towns, Charlottesville Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.
New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals. You can see all the arrest records for Virginia here.
The Jail's goal is to help support every offender with their integration back into the community as productive and independently successful. The Programs Department offers offenders’ evidence-based classes based off of a risk-based needs assessment that will promote the successful reentry of offenders back into the community.
In addition to the classes, the Programs Department also offers Transitional Services that focus specifically on the needs that offenders will have when entering back into the community. Using evidence-based theories proven to have worked in our community we collaborate with other agencies and institutions to include mental health, criminal justice agencies, religious groups, educational agencies K-12 as well as community colleges and universities. This collaboration both within and outside of the institution allows for our inmates to minimize their potential to recidivate offering a mirage of tools and opportunities from various professionals. These services may include assistance obtaining DMV identification, employment within the community, adequate housing and additional necessary documents to help support success. The facility administers its programs in a fair manner in the least restrictive environment consistent with public safety.

Good News Jail & Prison Ministry - The Good News Jail and Prison Ministry believes that God calls us to love and remember the needs of those inmates who are incarcerated in our community. They are someone’s family members, some mother’s child, one of our brothers or sisters. This ministry carries the “good news” of God’s grace, love and hope into a place of regret and sorrow. Each year, the Good News Jail and Prison Ministry raises funds to run programs and activities such as worship services, baptisms and mentoring. Chaplain Varaksa meets and councils both inmates and staff at ACRJ.
Employment - Within 30-90 days of release, inmates will meet with an Employment Facilitator to discuss their plans for employment after release. At that time, they will receive assistance with crafting a resume to take home with them, as well as information on job fairs and employment opportunities.

Public Inmate Visitation Schedule (Subject to change at any time)
It is recommended that all visitors contact the facility at 434-977-6981 ext. 261 prior to their arrival every time. Due to the needs of the facility, visits may be cancelled at any time. Inmates housing assignments can change at any time, and when it does, they are immediately under their new housing areas assignments. Inmates are responsible for ensuring their families are aware of these changes. Call ahead to be sure about their location visitation status.
General Population inmates receive two (30 minutes) visits per month only.
When an inmate is moved their visitation is changed to their new housing location.
YOU ARE ADVISED TO CALL 434-977-6981 ext. 261 prior to visiting because the facility could lockdown at any time unexpectedly. This means visitation will be cancelled.

Visits are scheduled on a "walk-in basis" based on availability first come/first serve. "Walk-in" is defined as a visitor being signed in for the contact/booth visit upon arrival to the facility. Once the visitor and the inmate are seated in the visitation room, the visitation begins.
VISITS ARE SCHEDULED ON A FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE BASIS.

Any visitor under the age of eighteen (18) will only be allowed to visit an inmate if a facility issued Parental Permission Slip is completed. This form must be completed and signed at the facility and be supported by the child’s original birth certificate (for age verification) and an approved form of parental/ legal guardian ID.
All visitors must walk through and successfully clear the electronic metal detector and are subject to themselves and their persons to be searched.
If there are protective orders in place on either party visitors will not be allowed to visit with the inmate.
