Through these initiatives, inmates gain skills and confidence, fostering personal growth and resilience.

ASPC-Yuma, part of the Arizona Department of Corrections' network of 13 prison facilities, stands as a modern medium-security institution in San Luis, Yuma County. Nestled approximately 190 miles southwest of Phoenix, it resides a mere 12 miles south of downtown Yuma and a scant three miles from the Mexican border. Hosting a capacity of 2,245 inmates across three housing units spanning security levels 2, 3, and 4, ADCRR-Yuma employs a meticulous score classification system to determine the appropriate custody and security level for each individual, ranging from 2 to 5, with 5 signifying the highest risk or need.

The Cocopah Unit, a 250-bed minimum-security facility, originally intended for inmate use in 1986, saw its deployment delayed until 1987 due to a potential sale to the Federal government that never came to fruition. Functioning as a level two (low custody) unit, it was initially part of the ADCRR-Perryville in October 1992 before transitioning into its prison complex in November 1995.

At ASPC-Yuma, inmates participate in a variety of Work Programs facilitated through the Work Incentive Pay Plan (WIPP), offering meaningful employment opportunities tailored to their skills, education, and security classification. These positions include roles contracted through Arizona Correctional Industries, Wild Land Fire Crew, kitchen duties, groundskeeping, and janitorial positions, available on both full-time and part-time bases.

The institution also offers comprehensive Education Programs covering Adult Basic Education classes for inmates below the Literacy Standard, a high school education program for non-graduates, and vocational education provided by a local community college, offering instruction in trades such as carpentry, masonry, and plumbing. Additionally, higher education opportunities are available through correspondence courses at the inmate's own expense.

Treatment Programs at ASPC-Yuma address various areas including substance abuse, financial management, re-entry preparation, parenting skills, and mental wellness, overseen by ADC programs staff or external facilitators. These programs aim to support inmates' rehabilitation and successful reintegration into society upon release.

Encouraging community engagement, ASPC-Yuma promotes inmate involvement in Volunteer Programs, facilitating fundraising initiatives for victims' services and community projects. Inmates, along with staff, actively participate in coordinating these efforts, donating significant funds and labor hours to designated agencies and organizations.

Religious/Spiritual Programs at the institution provide opportunities for inmates' religious expression, with chaplains, staff, contract service providers, volunteers, and community religious leaders offering worship services, counseling, and support, respecting the diverse religious backgrounds of the inmate population.

Recreational Programs cater to inmates' physical and mental well-being, offering a range of outdoor and indoor activities such as sports, games, and hobby crafts. These activities are tailored to inmates' security classifications and are supervised by staff to ensure safety and security at all times.
