Located at 40 Howard Ave in Cranston, RI, RI DOC - Bernadette Building carefully assigns inmates based on their custody level, considering factors like criminal history. RI DOC - Bernadette Building offers diverse educational and vocational programs aimed at equipping offenders for successful reintegration into society and reducing recidivism. Through these initiatives, inmates gain skills and confidence, fostering personal growth and resilience.

Female offenders used to be housed in two separate facilities; however, in late 2010 and 2011, the facilities housing these offenders were closed to the inmate population.

The awaiting trial and medium security women were moved to the Gloria McDonald Building, while the minimum security and work-release inmates were housed in the Bernadette Building. In July 2016, all female inmates were moved from the Bernadette Building and housed in the Gloria McDonald Women’s Facility.

The Bernadette Building has never been officially closed but currently does not house any female offenders.
