Located at 600 Evans Rd in Canon City, CO, SCC carefully assigns inmates based on their custody level, considering factors like criminal history. SCC offers diverse educational and vocational programs aimed at equipping offenders for successful reintegration into society and reducing recidivism. Through these initiatives, inmates gain skills and confidence, fostering personal growth and resilience.

SCC, situated within the East Canon Complex (adjacent to the Arrowhead Correctional Center, Four Mile Correctional Center, Colorado State Penitentiary and the Centennial Correctional Facility), commenced operations in 1957 under the Department of Parole, initially accommodating 60 beds. By the 1970s, SCC transitioned to a division of the Department of Corrections, witnessing expansion projects and double-bunking initiatives that increased its capacity to house 252 Level I offenders. However, due to a bed reduction, SCC remained unoccupied from December 2020 to October 2022. Currently, SCC, the sole Level I Minimum Facility in Cañon City, has undergone redevelopment, transitioning to single-cell occupancy and reducing its capacity to 126.

Rebranded as The Beacon at Skyline Correctional Center, the facility now emphasizes self-improvement, increased autonomy, and community engagement. The Beacon operates under a revamped organizational structure, mission, and philosophy, aiming to foster a positive shift in the Department of Corrections' culture. It employs a human-centered, collaborative approach to support healing, growth, and renewed purpose for both incarcerated residents and staff.

At The Beacon, the overarching objectives are to transform the corrections culture positively, cultivate community, strengthen relationships, promote personal growth, offer choice, reframe responsibility as an opportunity, harness creativity, empower staff to co-create intentional solutions, and view re-entry as a continuum of care. With a capacity to accommodate 126 incarcerated residents and select CDOC staff, The Beacon also designates 6-16 incarcerated individuals as Community Development Managers and Coordinators, tasked with guiding the facility alongside CDOC personnel.

Inmate Locator

SCC maintains a database of current inmates and their locations within the system. To locate an inmate, begin by using the DOC locator tool, which requires entering the first three letters of the inmate's first and last name, allowing for variations in spelling.

If unable to locate the desired information through free resources, users may opt to use the Arrest Record Search, which requires payment. While this option incurs a small fee, it provides access to the most up-to-date data available.

Ask The Inmate

Ask a former inmate questions at no charge. The inmate answering has spent considerable time in the federal prison system, state and county jails, and in a prison that was run by the private prison entity CCA. Ask your question or browse previous questions in response to comments or further questions of members of the InmateAid community.
