The Community Corrections Facility (CCF), established in 2001, receives funding from the Ohio Department of Youth Services and collaborates with RECLAIM dollars to alleviate overcrowding in ODYS and maintain youths within their communities. This 24-bed facility caters to male youth aged 13 to 18 with suspended ODYS commitments for felony delinquent acts. The Multi-County Juvenile Attention System (MCJAS) is a pioneering regional juvenile justice organization overseeing three attention centers, a group home, and the Community Corrections Facility. MCJAS operates with the primary objective of treating juvenile offenders and their families within a community setting, aiming to diminish the likelihood of youth re-entering the criminal justice system. At the core of MCJAS's philosophy lies the belief that each young person is an individual deserving of respect and unique treatment.
Youth's length of stay is determined by the Ohio Youth Assessment Scale, rating their reoffending probability. Low to moderate-rated youths stay four to six months, while high-rated youths remain six to nine months. Length of stay may be adjusted based on behavior or aftercare needs.
While secure, positive behavior allows youths to earn home visits, community outings, and work opportunities for restitution or community service. Education is integral, with services provided by Canton Local School, including GED testing to facilitate academic achievement.
Upon release, youths are connected to various services like employment opportunities, credit recovery, GED attainment, mentoring, and continued counseling, ensuring successful reintegration. The CCF's commitment to care and comprehensive aftercare has led to consistently low recidivism rates, surpassing national averages.
Certified by the Ohio Department of Youth Services and accredited by the American Correctional Association, the CCF maintains the highest industry standards. With consecutive 100% audits spanning nine years and full compliance with PREA auditing, the CCF consistently maintains high occupancy rates ranging from 94% to 99% annually.
Juvenile facilities overseen by the State of Ohio do not publish the names of the offenders housed in their facility. As such, there is no public forum for this information.
