The Geauga Co Jail is a detention center located at 12450 Merritt Rd Chardon, OH which is operated locally by the Geauga County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Geauga County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Chardon Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.
New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. The Geauga County Safety Center commenced operations on December 28th, 2005, facilitating the transfer of 47 inmates from the previous linear facility situated at 13281 Ravenna Road to the newly constructed premises on Merritt Road. This modern facility boasts a rated capacity of 182 beds, with specific allocations including 38 beds designated for female inmates, 84 beds for male inmates in the general population, and 60 beds reserved for males participating in the Community Service/Work release program. Additionally, the facility features nine cells equipped with closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, facilitating enhanced monitoring of inmates necessitating special attention, such as those on suicide watch, exhibiting mental health concerns, or requiring segregation due to disciplinary issues.
The Corrections staff undertook rigorous efforts to achieve State Certification through the Ohio Bureau of Adult Detention, culminating in a final inspection in December. The Geauga County Safety Center has attained approval as a Certified Jail in the State of Ohio, having demonstrated full compliance with all standards established by the Bureau of Adult Detention. This certification remains valid for five years, with renewal proceedings scheduled for the fifth year.
During the calendar year 2015, the Geauga County Safety Center received and processed a total of 2,932 prisoners. This figure encompasses individuals newly arrested, those undergoing arraignment procedures, and individuals committed to incarceration following conviction. Notably, the tally also encompasses inmates booked in for multiple weekends, reflecting the diverse nature of the center's operations and the breadth of its responsibilities in serving the local community.

Detainees cannot receive incoming calls. If you need to get in touch with a detainee to leave an urgent message, you must call (440) 279-2009 and leave the detainee’s full name, alien registration number, and your name and telephone number where you can be reached. The detainee will be given your message.

All video visits must be scheduled at least 12 hours in advance by going to inmatesales.com or by calling 1-877-998-5678. The registering visitor must be at least 18 years of age and provide a valid, government-issued photo identification during the initial registration process. Visitors under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian present during the video visit.
Each visit is for 25 minutes. Inmates may have one remote visit per day. Visitors and inmates are responsible for being present at the start of the scheduled video visit. Visitors and inmates signing in late will only receive the balance of the remaining time for the scheduled video visit.
