The Hillsborough Girls Academy is a specialized program catering to high- and maximum-risk female juvenile offenders aged 13 to 19 and 14 to 21, respectively. Designed as a 22-bed facility, it employs high- and maximum-risk treatment approaches to address the unique needs of its residents.

Residential facilities under the Department of Juvenile Justice cater to youths requiring extended care as mandated by the courts. Placement is determined by the commitment plan rather than the location of the arrest, ensuring a tailored approach to rehabilitation.

Utilizing gender-specific cognitive-behavioral treatment and evidence-based programs, the Hillsborough Girls Academy offers comprehensive services. These include Mental Health Overlay Services (MHOS), Substance Abuse Overlay Services (SAOS), individual, family, and group treatments addressing a wide range of issues such as anger management, coping skills, depression management, ego development, self-concept, family dynamics, impulse control, life and social skills, female-specific concerns, substance abuse, trauma, and domestic violence.

The anticipated length of stay varies depending on the level of risk, with high-risk youths progressing through individualized treatment plans and goals. Maximum-risk youths typically have an anticipated average length of stay ranging from 18 to 36 months.

As a Type 3 program, the academy offers education in English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Reading, and a career education elective course. Education services are facilitated by the Hillsborough County School District, ensuring a comprehensive approach to academic and vocational development.
