The Humboldt Co Jail is a low-security detention center located at 826 4th St Eureka, CA which is operated locally by the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Humboldt County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Eureka Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

The Custody Services Division is the largest division in the Sheriff's Office with 119 full-time employees, including 104 Correctional Officers. The Custody Services Bureau’s primary function is the care and custody of sentenced and non-sentenced inmates incarcerated in the HCCF. Located in downtown Eureka adjacent to the County Courthouse, the HCCF spans approximately 155,000 square feet on 6 floors and has a board rated capacity of 417 beds. The facility’s kitchen serves over 40,000 meals per year and the commercial size laundry operates 24 hours per day. The county contracts with the California Forensic Medical Group (CFMG) for 24 hours onsite medical and dental care. The facility contains a short-term care medical housing unit. Mental Health and substance abuse treatment services are provided through the Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services.

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office offers an exceptional approach to rehabilitation by providing vocational, educational, and treatment based programs to people currently incarcerated. The goal of providing programs to this population is to reduce the rate of recidivism and to support the currently incarcerated in their efforts to successfully reintegrate back into the community.

Some of the programs offered include College of the Redwoods course, substance abuse education, AA/NA groups, motivational enhancement therapy, jail ministry services, Native American talking circles, resume building classes and much more. In addition to these programs, the currently incarcerated are also offered opportunities to develop case plans to assist them in reaching their goals of successful reintegration.

Inmate Locator

Humboldt County Correctional Facility (HCCF) publishes the names of the inmates currently in their facility in California. Your search should start with this locator first to see if your loved one is there.

The second box is the InmateAid Inmate Search. This database of inmates is user-generated content to access and utilize any or all of the InmateAid services. If you need our assistance creating your inmate profile to keep in touch, email us at aid@inmateaid.com and we will assist you in locating your inmate.

As a last resort, you might have to pay for that information if we do not have it. The Arrest Record Search will cost you a small amount, but their data is the freshest available and for that reason, they charge to access it.

To visit an inmate, fill out a Visitor Request Form in the public lobby of the Humboldt County Correctional Facility during the inmates scheduled visiting hours. After completing the form, present it to the receptionist, no less than 15 minutes prior to the visiting session you wish to attend, with one of the following forms of identification:

  • Any state driver's license
  • Any state identification card
  • Federal identification card
  • Military identification card
  • Passport
  • A current DMV printout requesting a Driver's License or State Identification card

After entering your information, the receptionist will tell you which visiting booth to use, which elevator to take and which floor the visiting room is on. Please wait in the lobby area until directed by the receptionist through the metal detector to the elevators. The elevators are controlled by a remote operator. There is no need to push the elevator's buttons except to get the operator's attention or in case of an emergency. At the end of the visiting session, please leave the visiting room when asked. Failing to do so may delay the next visiting session.

Visiting Rules

No one under 18 years of age will be allowed to visit unless accompanied by a parent, legal guardian, or provides proof of emancipation. Only one visitor is allowed at a time.

  • No cameras or recording devices
  • No smoking, eating or drinking in the visiting room
  • No wearing provocative or revealing clothing
  • No hand signals or note writing
  • Disruptive behavior or interfering in another inmates visit is prohibited
  • Intoxicated persons will not be allowed to visit

Violating any of these rules will be sufficient cause to disallow the visit and could result in the suspension of visitation privileges.

Ask The Inmate

Ask a former inmate questions at no charge. The inmate answering has spent considerable time in the federal prison system, state and county jails, and in a prison that was run by the private prison entity CCA. Ask your question or browse previous questions in response to comments or further questions of members of the InmateAid community.
