The Dub Brassell Detention Center is a detention center located at 300 E 2nd Ave Pine Bluff, AR which is operated locally by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Jefferson County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Pine Bluff Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals. You can see all the arrest records for Arkansas here.

In 2007, Jefferson County Officials took a significant step in addressing the long-standing issue of overcrowding in their detention facilities by opening the W.C. "Dub" Brassell Adult Detention Center. This new state-of-the-art facility marked a substantial increase in the county's capacity to house detainees, nearly tripling the number of available jail beds.

For years, Jefferson County, particularly Pine Bluff, had been grappling with high crime rates, earning a reputation as a hotspot for criminal activity. The lack of adequate space for offenders exacerbated the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in the region.

With the opening of the W.C. "Dub" Brassell Adult Detention Center, equipped with 310 beds, Jefferson County authorities finally had the resources to fulfill their commitment to the community. The promise was simple yet profound: to effectively incarcerate the criminal element within Jefferson County—a task that had been hindered by overcrowding issues for far too long.

Previously, due to overcrowding, Jefferson County had to resort to housing detainees in facilities located elsewhere in the state. This situation not only strained resources but also posed logistical challenges for managing the inmate population.

The new detention center boasted state-of-the-art features, including comprehensive video surveillance systems for monitoring detainees and facilitating video visitations for families. These technological advancements not only enhanced security but also improved communication between detainees and their loved ones.

In terms of jail operations, all individuals arrested and taken into custody are transported to the Detention Center for booking and incarceration. The facility is strategically divided into separate housing areas to accommodate low/medium security risk males, high-security risk males, and female detainees, along with isolation and temporary holding cells. Whether pre-trial detainees or post-conviction inmates serving sentences or awaiting transfer to other correctional facilities, everyone is housed according to their security risk level.

Detainees have access to television, but smoking is strictly prohibited within the premises. The facility also houses an in-house medical facility staffed by a physician and nurse practitioner to attend to the healthcare needs of detainees. Meals are prepared in a full kitchen, with the menu typically comprising oatmeal/bread or grits/bread for breakfast, sub-sandwiches for lunch, and baked chicken and corn for dinner.

Each member of the Detention Center staff undergoes rigorous training, including state-approved courses, to become certified Jailers. Additionally, they receive specialized training in various areas such as ethics, professionalism, jail standards, and prisoner transportation. Duty assignments for each shift—whether as a Booking Officer, Control Panel Operator, or Communications Console Operator—are carefully delegated to ensure efficient operations and inmate management.

The opening of the W.C. "Dub" Brassell Adult Detention Center represented a significant milestone in Jefferson County's efforts to address its criminal justice challenges. With its modern facilities and trained staff, the county was better equipped to uphold public safety and administer justice effectively.
