In mid-2015, management of the state-owned facility transitioned from the Corrections Corporation of America (now CoreCivic) to LaSalle Corrections.
WCC stands as a state prison for men within the Louisiana Department of Corrections, situated approximately 13 miles southeast of Winnfield in unincorporated Winn Parish nestled within the Kisatchie National Forest. Established in 1990 and subsequently expanded in 1992, WCC holds the distinction of being the first privately managed medium-security prison in the United States. In addition to its role as a state prison, WCC also serves as a contract facility for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), accommodating detainees for short periods pending the resolution of their cases.
