Located at 10274 Boyer Rd in Carson City, MI, OTF carefully assigns inmates based on their custody level, considering factors like criminal history. OTF offers diverse educational and vocational programs aimed at equipping offenders for successful reintegration into society and reducing recidivism. Through these initiatives, inmates gain skills and confidence, fostering personal growth and resilience.

The OTF, formerly known as the Carson City Correctional Facility-East and Carson City Correctional Facility-West, represents a consolidation of two institutions into a single cohesive entity. This merger, which occurred in August 2009, has enhanced the facility's capacity to accommodate approximately 2,400 adult male inmates. Situated in Michigan, the Boyer Road Facility plays a crucial role in the state's corrections system, providing secure housing for individuals at various security levels.

At the Boyer Road Facility, 1,120 level I inmates are housed in eight units featuring seven-bed open bay pods. Additionally, the Carson City segment of the facility accommodates level II inmates in three units totaling 720 individuals, while two level IV units house 384 inmates. The facility's physical security is robust, with double fences enveloped in razor wire providing a formidable barrier. Electronic monitoring systems, perimeter patrols, and armed guard towers further augment security measures, ensuring a safe and controlled environment within the facility's confines.

Education and vocational training are integral components of the programming offered at Boyer Road. Inmates are encouraged to pursue GED courses to earn their diploma, with academic programming tailored to assist them in this endeavor. Those who have already attained a high school diploma or GED have the opportunity to engage in vocational training programs covering a diverse range of fields, including building trades, office occupations, and horticulture. Routine work assignments are available to prisoners, fostering a sense of responsibility and contributing to their personal development. Selected inmates may even participate in supervised work details in the surrounding community, gaining valuable skills and work experience.

Moreover, the Boyer Road Correctional Facility is actively involved in the Michigan Prisoner Reentry Initiative, which aims to prepare individuals for successful reintegration into society upon their release. Through comprehensive support services and resources, the initiative equips inmates with the tools they need to navigate the challenges of reentry and lead productive lives post-incarceration.

In terms of healthcare, the facility provides on-site routine medical and dental care to address prisoners' basic healthcare needs. Serious medical issues are addressed at the department's Duane L. Waters Health Care facility in Jackson, while emergencies receive prompt attention at local hospitals.

Overall, the Boyer Road Correctional remains committed to its mission of promoting public safety, accountability, and rehabilitation. By offering a combination of educational programming, vocational training, and comprehensive support services, the facility strives to empower inmates to make positive changes in their lives and successfully reintegrate into society upon their release.
