TCC serves as a minimum custody state prison facility, capable of accommodating up to 1,222 adult male inmates. Situated on a sprawling 150-acre property, Tipton CC has a rich history dating back to its initial construction in 1913. Over the years, the facility has undergone expansions and renovations to accommodate the evolving needs of the corrections system. Today, the total square footage of all buildings within the facility spans an impressive 326,860 square feet, encompassing administrative offices, housing units, vocational workshops, recreational areas, and support facilities.

The utilization of open bay dormitories as the primary housing arrangement at Tipton Correctional Center reflects the facility's emphasis on minimum security and inmate reintegration. Additionally, the open bay design promotes staff visibility and facilitates efficient monitoring of inmate activities, contributing to a safe and secure environment within the facility.

Inmates selected to work various jobs on institutional grounds play a crucial role in the daily operations of Tipton Correctional Center. By participating in janitorial maintenance, kitchen duties, laundry services, and groundskeeping, inmates not only contribute to the upkeep of the facility but also gain valuable job skills and work experience that can benefit them upon their release. These vocational opportunities serve as a means of rehabilitation and reintegration, empowering inmates to develop a strong work ethic, responsibility, and self-sufficiency.

Furthermore, TCC is committed to providing a supportive and conducive environment for inmate rehabilitation and personal growth. In addition to vocational training and job assignments, the facility offers a range of educational, vocational, and counseling programs aimed at addressing the diverse needs of its inmate population. These programs may include GED preparation, adult basic education, substance abuse treatment, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and life skills development, among others.
