The New Philadelphia Girls Group Home, situated in downtown New Philadelphia, Ohio, is a ten-bed facility licensed by The Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services. It caters to young ladies aged 12 to 17, and up to 21 years if mentally or physically handicapped, in temporary custody of Juvenile Courts or the Department of Jobs and Family Services, and is Title IV eligible. Its primary focus is meeting the individual physical, emotional, and social needs of residents, and reintegrating them into the community.
Gender-responsive programming tailored to each girl and her family seeks opportunities for reunification, foster care, or independent living. Residents engage in female-responsive services like the Girl's Circle, peer-group meetings, and individual counseling, fostering healthy lifestyles and independence. They receive guidance in self-esteem, life skills, addiction support, trauma counseling, domestic violence, victim assistance, and health awareness, while staff serve as positive role models.
Residents are encouraged to seek employment opportunities, with half of their pay allocated to savings and a quarter for court fines or restitution, fostering financial responsibility. Community programming includes Drug and Addiction Services Group, Alcohol Anonymous, and health, counseling, and recreational services linkage.
Education is provided through the New Philadelphia School System, with alternatives like the STAR Alternative Program or online schooling available. Vocational training options are offered through the Buckeye Career Center.
A Nurse facilitates access to medical, dental, and optical care, and residents can obtain the Ohio Medical Card for easier service access. Strong emphasis is placed on relationship improvement and maintenance with parents or guardians, with residents earning home visits for family reunification practice.
