Through these initiatives, inmates gain skills and confidence, fostering personal growth and resilience.

Wells Camp, situated in Independence Valley near Wells, commenced construction in the fall of 1984 and officially opened in March 1985. It accommodates minimum custody offenders and operates in partnership with the Nevada Division of Forestry (NDF). NDF manages seven inmate work crews at WCC, aiding in wildland firefighting and local projects like conservation, community initiatives, and highway cleanup.

Day-to-day operations at WCC are overseen by a Correctional Lieutenant, with administrative support from Ely State Prison. The staff includes a Correctional Lieutenant, Sergeant, Senior Officer, eight Correctional Officers, a Correctional Case Work Specialist I, and a Retail Storekeeper.

With a capacity for 150 minimum custody offenders, WCC primarily assigns inmates to NDF fire crews. While program volunteers are limited due to its remote location, WCC provides G.E.D. preparation and testing through Great Basin College of Elko, High School Diploma programs via Elko County School District, and the New Beginnings program. Ongoing efforts aim to expand program offerings at the camp.
