The OSSC is overseen by the Arkansas Department of Corrections and consists of six community-based programs that supervise both pre-sentenced and sentenced offenders, prioritizing public safety and cost-effective alternatives to incarceration. Working in collaboration with the Department's Work Release Center, located at 104 Walco Ln Malvern, AR, and other criminal justice agencies, the division oversees thousands of offenders in the community.
The Omega Supervision Sanction Center functions as an alternative to traditional prisons or jails, specifically targeting parole technical violators. Inmates at this center are held for a relatively short period, typically 90-180 days, as a penalty for violating parole conditions. The center aims to provide a minimum treatment program for 300 male offenders, focusing on addressing the issues that led to their parole violations.
Upon admission, inmates undergo an intake process and orientation, after which they are assigned a counselor. They then begin attending classes and working on strategies to overcome the barriers hindering their successful completion of parole. Inmates without a GED are required to attend GED classes in addition to their treatment curriculum classes.
The center operates on a schedule where inmates typically attend classes for half of the day and work for the other half, emphasizing both educational and vocational development. Overall, the Omega Supervision Sanction Center seeks to decrease the number of parolees sent to the Arkansas DOC and held in county jails for technical violations by providing a structured and rehabilitative environment for parole violators to address their issues and successfully reintegrate into society.
