When someone you care about gets locked up, it's tough to figure out all the ins and outs of jail life. From sending mail to visiting, there are a lot of things to sort out. And getting info about the arrest? Not always easy. That's where this webpage comes in handy. It's here to help you get a handle on how things work at Orange County-James A. Musick Facility (JMF) so you can stay connected and support your loved one behind bars.
The JMF is a detention center located at 13502 Musick Rd Irvine, CA which is operated locally by the Orange County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Orange County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Irvine Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.
New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals. You can see all the arrest records for California here.
The James A. Musick Facility, affectionately known as "the Farm" due to its historical ties to agriculture, is undergoing a transformative change with the construction of a cutting-edge facility. This $256 million project aims to address the evolving needs of the jail population by placing a stronger emphasis on treatment and rehabilitation.
The new facility opened in 2023 and boasts 896 beds and state-of-the-art amenities, including direct-supervision housing and modern medical and programming facilities. The construction of the new James A. Musick Facility represents a significant step forward in the modernization of the correctional system. It will not only provide essential resources for rehabilitation but also contribute to the broader efforts to create a more effective and humane approach to incarceration. Ultimately, this facility will establish a new legacy for "the Farm," aligning with contemporary standards and serving as a critical component of Orange County's public safety infrastructure.
