The MMSF, constructed from 1990 to 1992, spans 29 acres and accommodates sentenced adult male offenders classified as medium custody, boasting the highest bed capacity among RIDOC facilities at 1,186 beds.

MMSF prioritizes inmate reintegration through extensive programming aimed at facilitating successful community reentry. The facility offers various industry opportunities, including garment and furniture/upholstery shops, a license plate shop, and carpentry and auto body shops. Additionally, MMSF features an education and programming building, a gym, and a spacious outdoor recreation yard.

Established in 1992, MMSF is a crucial component of the Rhode Island Department of Corrections' efforts to provide comprehensive rehabilitation and preparation for inmates transitioning back into society.
