Located at 2893 Texas 6 in Marlin, TX, Marlin Unit carefully assigns inmates based on their custody level, considering factors like criminal history. Marlin Unit offers diverse educational and vocational programs aimed at equipping offenders for successful reintegration into society and reducing recidivism. The Marlin Unit, designated for female inmates, has a capacity of 606 individuals and occupies approximately 25 acres of land. While the facility does not engage in agricultural or manufacturing operations, it prioritizes Unit Maintenance to ensure a safe and functional environment.

Medical services at the Marlin Unit include ambulatory medical and dental care, supplemented by limited mental health services. The facility also offers medical showers and Telemedicine Services to meet the healthcare needs of its residents. Medical operations are overseen and managed by UTMB.

One of the unique aspects of the Marlin Unit is its Female Cognitive Pre-Release Program (FCPRP), designed to address the specific needs of female inmates preparing for reintegration into society. Educational opportunities include literacy programs covering Adult Basic Education/GED, CHANGES/Pre-Release, and Cognitive Intervention, fostering personal development and preparation for successful reentry.

In addition to these programs, the Marlin Unit provides various supplementary services aimed at supporting inmate well-being and rehabilitation. These include a Faith-Based Dormitory, Reentry Planning assistance, Chaplaincy Services, and participation in the GO KIDS Initiative, which focuses on empowering and supporting incarcerated mothers.

While the Marlin Unit does not currently engage in community work projects, it encourages volunteer involvement in Religious/Faith-Based Studies and Activities, recognizing the importance of spiritual and emotional support in the rehabilitation process. Through these initiatives, the Marlin Unit strives to create a supportive and nurturing environment conducive to inmate growth and positive change.

Visitation Information

Inmate Visitation

Visitation plays an important role in maintaining the association between inmates and their friends and family as well as strengthening family ties. Visitation Procedure Update (effective December 28, 2023)

Preparing for your visit:

Before you travel to a unit:

  • Confirm the inmate is assigned to the unit you are planning to visit and has visitation privileges.

  • Confirm the unit visitation schedule and verify that visitation has not been canceled. An eligible inmate cannot receive visitors if visitation has been canceled.

  • Do not bring cash (except coins, not more than $35).

  • No cell phones inside the secure perimeter.

  • Spiritual visits must be coordinated through the warden’s office.

Each inmate is only allowed one visit per weekend. To the extent possible, individuals on an inmate’s Visitors List should coordinate with one another and with the inmate to prevent subsequent visitors from being declined when they arrive at the unit.
