The Van Wert Co Jail is a detention center located at 204 N Washington St Van Wert, OH which is operated locally by the Van Wert County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Van Wert County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Van Wert Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. The Correctional Facility is a 78-bed county-owned building that was originally opened in September of 1998. The facility offers inmates programs such as anger management, parenting skills, along with drug and alcohol rehab. There is a work-release program for inmates who are employed and qualify under strict established guidelines.

The Sheriff also maintains an inmate community work crew program. Inmates are placed on supervised work crews to do community service work throughout Van Wert County. This provides a service to the public of numerous man-hours of community service by the inmates, while at the same time instilling a philosophy of good work habits and work ethic with the inmates.
