The Walker County AL Jail & Work Release is a low/medium-security detention center located at 1902 2nd Ave Jasper, AL which is operated locally by the Walker County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Walker County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Jasper Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals. You can see all the arrest records for Alabama here.

The Walker County Jail's new facility was opened in August of 1998. It currently holds 250 inmates and was built in a modular fashion that allows for more units to be added in the future if needed. The jail has a doctor on site with a nursing staff, one fully equipped kitchen and staff, and one fully operational laundry.

You may also purchase phone cards from Winn-Dixie.

When bonding out an inmate, you must bring with you a thirty-five dollar ($35) money order made payable to the "Circuit Clerk". This fee is required by Alabama law and is separate than any money or property required to make a cash or property bond.
INMATE LETTERS
All incoming and outgoing mail must be on a plain white post card (except legal mail). Any other mail received will be returned to sender. Any mail that has been sprayed with scents or chemicals, color cards, etc. will also be returned. All mail must have a complete return address. Any mail without a return address will be returned. This is for the safety and security of the jail. Do not put any labels, mailing labels, or any other item that sticks to the postcard. This is due to people sending drugs and contraband hidden under the labels. Every rule you see here is a direct result of a specific security problem or contraband being introduced into the jail.

You may write a letter to an inmate at the following address: Walker County Jail, "Inmates Name", 2001 2nd Ave Jasper, AL 35501 but jail staff will not be able to take messages or letters for inmates directly. This is not allowed. Letters must come through the mail. Mail is checked before it is given to an inmate. Inmate to Inmate mail is not allowed and mail coming through a 3rd party is not allowed. Cash is treated as contraband in the jail. We will not be responsible for anything that is lost because you mailed it to an inmate.

JAIL STORE
If an inmate needs something they will have to buy it from the jail store. There is a cash machine in the lobby where you can leave money on their account. You can either deposit cash in the machine or use your credit/debit card. The money goes into the inmates jail account. Money has to be in by Monday afternoon in order for the inmate to purchase an item from the store for that week. There is a $10.00 co-pay for doctor's visits and a $6.00 co-pay for each prescription. This money will come out of the inmates jail account. All inmates must buy their white clothing from the jail store (commissary), no exceptions.

An inmate's government check or payroll check if brought to the jail must be entered into their jail account.

INMATE PROPERTY
To pick up an inmates property when that inmate is still in our jail, SATURDAYS are the only day you may do so from [8am to 11am] or [1pm to 3pm]. If for some reason you cannot pick up at this time, you may try to pick up the following SATURDAY. Upon release from jail any money remaining on the inmate's account will only be released to that inmate.

Inmate Locator

Walker County AL Jail & Work Release publishes the names of the inmates currently in their facility in Alabama. Your search should start with this locator first to see if your loved one is there.

The second box is the InmateAid Inmate Search. This database of inmates is user-generated content to access and utilize any or all of the InmateAid services. If you need our assistance creating your inmate profile to keep in touch, email us at aid@inmateaid.com and we will assist you in locating your inmate.

As a last resort, you might have to pay for that information if we do not have it. The Arrest Record Search will cost you a small amount, but their data is the freshest available and for that reason, they charge to access it.
