The WorkBridge is a medium to low-security detention center located at 2840 Liberty Ave, Ste 300 Pittsburgh, PA that is operated locally by the Juvenile Justice Department and holds youths awaiting the determination of punishment for the crimes which they are accused. Most of the adolescents are here for less than two years.
WorkBridge is a community-based treatment program located in the Strip District area of Pittsburgh, PA. This four-component program provides services to 700-800 clients daily. WorkBridge serves Allegheny County Juvenile Court by providing juvenile offenders with opportunities for community service or paid employment by principles of Balanced and Restorative Justice.
The Community Service Component serves clients aged 10 to 21, offering them the chance to fulfill court-ordered community service at various sites. Meanwhile, the Stipend Program caters to clients aged 10 to 15, too young for employment due to Child Labor Laws. In exchange for community service, these clients receive a stipend to cover restitution.
For clients aged 15 to 21, the Community Repair Crew Component provides court-ordered community service alongside competency development. This includes training in six areas of minor repair and construction, benefiting victims of crimes by offering immediate assistance. Additionally, victim awareness and impact classes are provided.
The Employment Initiative Component targets clients aged 16 to 21, conducting job training workshops and assisting in securing meaningful, paid employment opportunities within the community. Employment counselors facilitate this process and collaborate with youth and the court to collect restitution payments.
Juvenile facilities overseen by Allegheny County do not publish the names of the offenders housed in their facility. As such, there is no public forum for this information.
Visitation at the county or regional juvenile facility is restricted to immediate family members only, including mothers, fathers, sisters, and brothers. The visitation guidelines are stringent, and it is advisable to contact the facility staff to ascertain specific limitations.
