Lehigh County Jail - Visitation

Inmate Visiting Information - General population inmates may receive visitors every three days on a rotating basis according to their housing unit assignment. The yearly visitation calendars are posted in the section link to the left. Inmates in administrative segregation receive one visit per week for a period of 30 minutes. Inmates in disciplinary segregation receive one 30-minute visit approximately every 30 days contingent on their behavior.

Visiting is done via telephone while viewing through glass. There is no physical contact.

NOTE: Visit conversations are subject to monitoring and recording.

Visitation Rules

1. Non-contact visitation is a minimum of one-half hour for general population inmates and, if there is no one waiting, may continue to the end of the session. Visits for the segregated population inmates are one half-hour in length.

2. There will be a limit of two visitors per inmate at a given time, including baby or child.

3. Visitors are restricted to one visit per day.

4. In order to expedite the visiting process, visitors should know the inmate's full name and identification number.

5. All visitors 18 years and older shall be required to provide a current and valid government-issued identification that includes a photo and date of birth. Examples of appropriate identification include but are not limited to:
   Driver's license, passport, medical assistance cards and Pennsylvania Department of Transportation identification.

7. Visitors who do not provide an acceptable form of official identification with a photo and a date of birth will not be admitted into the Jail.

8. A parent or legal guardian must accompany any person under 18 years of age.

9. An original birth certificate that includes one of the names listed as mother/father must be either the visitor or the inmate. This document must be presented at each visit. Photocopies are not acceptable.

10. The escorting adult is responsible for the behavior of the minor visitor. The escorting adult will, at no time, leave any child unattended while visiting an inmate. Correctional staff do not supervise visiting minors.

11. Visitors believed to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol will not be permitted to visit or to remain on facility grounds.

12. All visitors are expected to use good judgment in their dress. No provocative clothing will be allowed. If a person’s dress is questionable, the Shift Commander shall determine if the attire is acceptable. If determined unacceptable, the Shift Commander will cancel the visit.

13. Hats, with the exception of religious headgear, and outer garments (coats,jackets) must be secured before the visit begins. Shoes are required to be worn in the facility. Please view the Lehigh County Jail Visitor Dress Code for more information.

14. All personal items must be secured before entering the metal detectors prior to the visit.

15. A parent with a baby may take one diaper, wipe, blanket, and one baby bottle into the screen visit area. All other items must be secured into locker provided. Strollers must remain in the lobby.

16. Visitors who leave the visiting area for any reason (use the bathrooms, etc) are considered to have ended the visit.

17. Visitors who are disorderly or exhibit lewd behavior will cause the visit to be terminated and they will be required to leave the facility. Lewd behavior includes exposing of breasts and genitalia.

18. Visitors responsible for vandalism, including graffiti, will have their visiting privileges suspended and will be required to pay for damages.

19. Visitors must comply with all lawful verbal orders given by Department of Corrections staff.

20. Violations of any rules or regulations or inappropriate behavior on the part of the visitor and/or the inmate may lead to suspension or denial of visiting privileges.

21. All visitors, including children, are subject to search on entering the facility. The visitor has the option of submitting to the search or immediately leaving the facility.

Attorney Visits - While attorneys may visit their clients at any reasonable time, preferred hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays.
Corrections personnel will accommodate visits at other times; however, attorneys should be aware that, depending on operational conditions in the facility, they might experience delays.

Attorneys are also required to present appropriate photo-identification as well as a Bar Association card to gain entry.

Law Enforcement Visits - Law enforcement personnel may visit inmates at any reasonable time. Preferred hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays.
Corrections personnel will accommodate visits at other times; however, law enforcement officials should be aware that, depending on operational conditions in the facility, they might experience delays.

Law enforcement officials are required to secure all weapons and ammunition and present official identification prior to entering the facility.
