The Ray West Juvenile Detention Center (RWJJC) is a medium to low-security detention center located at 818 FM 3254 Brownwood, TX that is operated locally by the Juvenile Justice Department and holds youths awaiting the determination of punishment for the crimes which they are accused. Most of the adolescents are here for less than two years.
The Ray West Juvenile Justice Center (RWJJC) operates as a 14-bed facility, ensuring each juvenile has a private room equipped with essential amenities. As a secure facility, all doors are locked, and visual monitoring aligns with Texas Juvenile Justice Department standards. Upon referral, everything necessary is provided for the child, except prescribed medication.
Detention hearings, overseen by an authorized Juvenile Judge, occur within two working days. Legal representation is provided if needed. Trained Detention Officers assist juveniles, with mental health issues addressed by the Center for Life Resources/MHMR. Meals, including three main meals and an evening snack, are provided daily.
Visitation occurs twice daily, with strict adherence to the approved visitation list and ID requirements. Special visitation may be arranged based on exceptional circumstances. Juveniles may make a 5-minute phone call daily, subject to the approved list, with 3-way calling prohibited. Additional call attempts may be made if initial calls are unanswered, contingent on facility capacity and activities.
Juvenile facilities overseen by Brown County do not publish the names of the offenders housed in their facility. As such, there is no public forum for this information.
