At IL DOC - Southwestern Illinois Work Camp's state corrections facility, well-behaved inmates can join a work release program, getting regular jobs in the public sector during the day. Depending on the rules, they might work weekdays and go home at night, serving their sentences only on weekends. Some stay in halfway houses or at home when they're not working. As they get closer to getting out, they might switch to reintegration programs and could even get full-time jobs when they are released.

This program has perks like better chances of finding a job after getting out, finding work faster, making more money afterward, and being less likely to go back to jail. SWIWC wants to help inmates succeed in getting back into society.

Located within the perimeter of the Southwestern Illinois Correctional Center, this facility spans a single building covering 10,038 square feet, contributing to the overall 195,214 square feet of the correctional center. Offering a range of inmate programs, the facility supports academic pursuits with Adult Basic Education (ABE), Pre-General Education Development (Pre-GED), and General Education Development (GED) courses.

Vocational training opportunities include commercial custodial work, horticulture, business skills, construction, and warehousing, supplemented by remedial skill development. Volunteer services such as Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous, along with seminars and initiatives, aim to enrich inmates' lives and foster personal growth. Additionally, the facility provides programs addressing life skills, substance abuse, anger management, domestic violence, parenting, interpersonal relationships, and support for incarcerated veterans' transition. Leisure activities, chaplaincy services, library access, and community work crews further contribute to the holistic rehabilitation approach.
