The Kansas Department of Corrections oversees the operations of two juvenile correctional facilities in Topeka and Larned. Both juvenile correctional facilities are medium– and maximum–security facilities. In Topeka, female offenders are housed at the KJCC-West facility while male offenders are housed at the KJCC-East Facility. Larned houses only male offenders.

The facilities provide educational services including high school diploma and GED programs as well as vocational programs and substance abuse services. An estimated 70% to 85% of the state’s juvenile offenders require substance abuse services. To address substance abuse issues, both facilities operate “The Matrix,” an intensive treatment approach for substance abuse and dependency.

Other rehabilitative services include programming for mental illness, developmental delay, violent offenders, sex offenders, independent living, parenting and behavior management.
