At KS DOC - Wichita Work Release Facility (WWRF)'s state corrections facility, well-behaved inmates can join a work release program, getting regular jobs in the public sector during the day. Depending on the rules, they might work weekdays and go home at night, serving their sentences only on weekends. Some stay in halfway houses or at home when they're not working. As they get closer to getting out, they might switch to reintegration programs and could even get full-time jobs when they are released.

This program has perks like better chances of finding a job after getting out, finding work faster, making more money afterward, and being less likely to go back to jail. WWRF wants to help inmates succeed in getting back into society.

The WWRF, a satellite unit of the Winfield Correctional Facility, is an all-male, minimum-custody state prison located in Wichita in south-central Kansas. The purpose of the work release program is to prepare selected inmates for release and to assist them in making a successful transition from the institutional environment back into a free society. Work release offers a unique opportunity to realize correctional objectives while permitting the participants to leave confinement and work in the community under close supervision and structure.

Participating inmates must maintain full-time employment in the community. From their wages, the inmates must pay a room and board fee, transportation expenses, court costs, restitution, dependent support, and other outstanding debts. They also must accumulate savings before released from custody. At the same time, participants are responsible for their own medical and dental expenses and maintenance of their rooms as well as general use areas of the facility.
