The Marathon County Juvenile Detention is a medium to low-security detention center located at 7015 Packer Dr Wausau, WI that is operated locally by the Juvenile Justice Department and holds youths awaiting the determination of punishment for the crimes of which they are accused. Most of the adolescents are here for less than two years.

The Marathon County Juvenile Facility houses two distinct types of placements for juveniles: the Secure Detention Center and the Juvenile Shelter Home.
The Secure Detention Center is designed for secure placement of juveniles, akin to an adult jail, typically accommodating individuals aged 10-17 years old. This facility, which can house up to 20 boys and girls, generally admits juveniles due to criminal activity, ensuring a controlled and secure environment.
Conversely, the Juvenile Shelter Home within the same facility provides non-secure placement for juveniles, allowing them a degree of freedom within a structured setting. This shelter home admits children aged 10-17 years old for various reasons, including abuse, neglect, runaway behavior, being uncontrollable, criminal activity, and awaiting placement in a foster home, group home, or residential treatment center. The shelter home currently has the capacity to house up to 8 boys and girls, offering a more open environment compared to the secure detention center.
Juvenile facilities overseen by Marathon County do not publish the names of the offenders housed in their facility. As such, there is no public forum for this information.
