The Shelby County OH Jail is a detention center located at 555 Gearhart Rd Sidney, OH which is operated locally by the Shelby County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Shelby County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Sidney Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. The Shelby County Correctional Facility is a 188-bed county-owned jail located in Sidney, Ohio.

The jail offers work release and inmate worker positions to those who qualify. Programs such as G.E.D., drug, and alcohol rehabilitation programs and many other enrichment classes are offered as well.

Our daily population is 113 inmates, with a record high of 155 people housed here.

Visitation Information

Shelby County Detention Center - Visitation

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office has implemented video visitation for inmates currently incarcerated in the Shelby County Jail.

For information regarding video visitation or to sign up, go to www.homewav.com or you can call 844/394-6639 Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM CST and Saturday- Sunday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM CST. You can also email Homewav at info@homewav.com. To have a Video visitation with an inmate you will need to schedule an appointment to use the devices through Homewav, which you can do from the comfort of your home. Visitation can be scheduled seven days a week from 7:30 AM to 10:30 PM.

Each inmate can receive up to 30-minutes of free video visitation per week. The free video visitation will be on the following days and times only in the lobby of the Sheriff’s Office. Paid Video visitation is also available in the lobby of the Sheriff’s Office.

Regular (Off Site) Video visitation is available from 7:30 AM – 10:30 PM seven days a week.

Clergy can visit at any time, however, advance notice is request and proof of clergy status may be required.

We will still have Monday paid visitation.

  • Male paid visitation 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
  • Female paid visitation 8:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
  • Administration Segregation visitation 9:00 PM until 10:00 PM
