The Sullivan Co Jail is a detention center located at 140 Blountville Bypass Blountville, TN which is operated locally by the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Sullivan County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Blountville Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals. You can see all the arrest records for Tennessee here.

The Corrections Division ensures a secure environment for both inmates and employees, comprising 114 personnel divided into two distinct divisions. The administrative division encompasses critical functions such as food service, medical care, training, commissary operations, work release, day reporting, and all inmate programs. Meanwhile, the operations division manages the officers working across the facility's four shifts within the housing facilities and the transportation unit.

In response to the pressing issue of overcrowding, the facility expanded its capacity in 2006, accommodating 383 inmates, with an average daily population reaching 536. Subsequently, in May 2007, a new minimum-security facility with a capacity of 240 was inaugurated, effectively alleviating the overcrowding challenge. Equipped with essential amenities such as a full-service kitchen, laundry facilities, a visitation area, a chapel, a property room, and a medical suite, the new extension facility bolstered the institution's operational capabilities.

Initiatives introduced in 2007 aimed at enhancing inmate rehabilitation include GED classes, Drug and Alcohol programs, and parenting classes tailored for female inmates. Medical services operate round-the-clock, with at least one nurse on duty at all times, collaborating closely with the Sullivan County Health Department to provide inmates with communicable disease education. Frontier Health offers relapse prevention management for inmates struggling with substance abuse issues, promoting abstinence post-release. Comprehensive health education on chronic medical conditions and related medications is provided, with regular monitoring and specialized care offered for chronic illnesses, including access to on-site diagnostic services such as X-rays, EKGs, and ultrasounds.

Inmates undergo thorough medical assessments upon intake, including tuberculosis testing within fourteen days of admission. Intake medical screenings are conducted within twelve hours of admission, ensuring prompt review and care for any health concerns. For inmates with chronic illnesses, discharge plans and medication are provided to facilitate continued medical treatment upon their release back into the community.
