The Traverse Co Jail is a detention center located at 203 7th Street N Wheaton, MN which is operated locally by the Traverse County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Traverse County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Wheaton Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals. You can see all the arrest records for Minnesota here.

The new County Law Enforcement Center/Jail, inaugurated in July of 2007, represents a significant milestone in Traverse County's commitment to law enforcement and public safety. With a capacity to accommodate up to eleven inmates, the facility is equipped with a comprehensive 911 dispatch center, overseen by a dedicated Jail Administrator and a team of six full-time and four part-time Communications/Corrections Officers, ensuring round-the-clock staffing every day of the year.

At the Traverse County Sheriff’s Office, maintaining a professional standard of law enforcement is paramount. This commitment extends to safeguarding citizens, preventing and investigating criminal activities, and fostering collaborative relationships with other departments and services in the community.

Within the Corrections division, meticulous intake and processing procedures are implemented for all individuals, regardless of age, who are arrested and detained in Traverse County. The Traverse County Detention Center serves as the temporary residence for inmates awaiting trial or court disposition, as well as those sentenced by the court to incarceration of one year or less. Additionally, the jail accommodates individuals participating in work release programs (Huber) and sentence-to-serve arrangements.
