Located at 7 Farrell St in South Burlington, VT, CRCF carefully assigns inmates based on their custody level, considering factors like criminal history. CRCF offers diverse educational and vocational programs aimed at equipping offenders for successful reintegration into society and reducing recidivism. Through these initiatives, inmates gain skills and confidence, fostering personal growth and resilience.
CRCF is a prison for approximately 155 female inmates. Originally constructed in the 1970s to temporarily house 88 inmates awaiting trial, the facility faced numerous challenges, including unsanitary conditions and lack of handicap accessibility. In 2012, these issues came to light, prompting administrative changes and improvements. Previously, inmates lacked a standard uniform and relied solely on clothing from family and friends, leading to clothing shortages for those without support networks. However, reforms have since been implemented, providing offenders with blue, teal, and khaki uniforms, along with overall improved conditions.
Despite these improvements, CRCF continues to change, such as offering inmates a computer skills course. Nevertheless, the facility still has progress to make and is considered the state's least favorable female correctional facility. In June 2015, CRCF faced budget cuts, resulting in the reduction of its education programs, with further cuts anticipated in the future.
CRCF maintains a database of current inmates and their locations within the system. To locate an inmate, begin by using the DOC locator tool, which requires entering the first three letters of the inmate's first and last name, allowing for variations in spelling.
If unable to locate the desired information through free resources, users may opt to use the Arrest Record Search, which requires payment. While this option incurs a small fee, it provides access to the most up-to-date data available.
