The BFRC is a detention center located at 1040 Berks Rd Leesport, PA which is operated locally by the Berks County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Berks County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Leesport Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals. You can see all the arrest records for Pennsylvania here.

The BCRC, also known as the Berks Family Residential Center, is a 96-bed immigration detention facility located in Leesport, Pennsylvania. It was operated by Berks County under contract with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Originally established as a family detention center in March 2001, it ceased operating in that capacity in March 2021.

In August 1994, Berks County began leasing space at its youth detention center to the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) to house juvenile immigration detainees. Construction of a new building to house families was planned by May 2000, and on March 3, 2001, the Berks County Residential Center opened its doors for family immigration detention under the INS.

In January 2016, the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (PA DHS) announced the revocation of the center's license to operate as a child detention facility, citing violations. Despite an appeal, the revocation was upheld, and PA DHS continued to report violations at the facility from 2016 to 2018.

By March 2021, ICE announced the cessation of family detention at the Berks County Residential Center, with plans to repurpose it for adult detention.
