The Linda Martin Attention Center ceased long-term detention of juvenile offenders in 2020 as part of Wayne County's initiative to reduce youth incarceration. Operated by the Multi-County Juvenile Attention System, the facility will be transformed into a transitional unit effective July 1. Here, youth can enter the system and undergo processing at Linda Martin before potential transfer to the Attention Center in Stark County for housing.
This transition aligns with the goals and principles of the Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative (JDAI), established by the Annie E. Casey Foundation in 1992. JDAI is a data-driven reform process aimed at reducing unnecessary juvenile detention and addressing racial disparities within local and state juvenile justice systems nationwide.
