The Red Lake County Sheriff's Office, led by Sheriff James Tadman, operates a 72-hour holding facility for short-term detention purposes. In 1976, Red Lake County partnered with Norman and Polk Counties through a Joint Powers Agreement, resulting in the establishment of Tri-County Community Corrections. This regional collaboration enables the counties to efficiently provide correctional services, including inmate housing and rehabilitation programs.
When an individual is arrested in Red Lake County, the Sheriff's Office manages the initial booking process, which includes recording personal details, taking fingerprints, and photographing arrestees. Due to the county’s limited holding capabilities, detainees are promptly transferred to the Tri-County Community Corrections-Northwest Regional Corrections Center (TCCC serves as an administrative and operational agency managing community-based correctional services across multiple counties, including probation, parole, and rehabilitation programs. The NWRCC is a physical jail facility under TCCC’s management, responsible for the detention and supervision of adult inmates within a secure environment.), where they receive secure housing, meals, medical care, and access to legal and rehabilitative resources. This arrangement allows the Sheriff's Office to focus on law enforcement and administrative responsibilities while ensuring detainees are appropriately housed and supported until their legal proceedings are resolved.
