Do inmates get one free call from the county jail?

hello my son was taken to dodge county i beileve this moring my question is once he is processed there does he get a free phone call? this is all knew to him and his family im just so worried about him

No, that is largely a myth. In police custody, maybe but if he is processed in a county jail, there are no free calls. There will be a payphone that they will have to use and make a collect call. This is a super-expensive way to communicate and it will be $15 per call. We have a program that will allow the calls to be at the cheapest possible rate for that facility. The biggest issue is that there is only one phone provider per jail. They control the rates and with no competition, the prices are steep.
